New Year, New Plan, New Running Route

I’ve been out of the running game a while now – during my injury I kept my fitness up by cycling and cross-trainer and only dabbled in running post-injury. Then I moved to my parents and Christmas happened, and I’ve resorted back to couch potato status. It’s comfy here, the couch is nice, the carb-filled belly is comforting, the warmth of the inside of the house is lovely. However the sluggishness makes me lazy and a lot less proactive about life, the carb-filled belly makes my jeans feel tight, I’m missing fresh air, and my fitbit numbers are low!

So now I’m back in Oxford, doing the house up, restoring my routine and I have time to move. Move outside, move inside, move in the fresh air, discover new running routes (though we only moved 5 mins up the road), and start the love-hate running relationship. I’ve chosen a good and bad time to do it, it’s cold and probably only going to get colder till the end of Feb, it’s dark (though getting lighter a little bit every morning) and I am already thinking of 101 things I need to do in the house in the evening (excuses already). However I’ve got the fresh start of a new year in front of me. One of my 2014 goals was to run a half marathon, and instead of completely swiping it off the list because I didn’t do it, I’m just going to push it back 6 months – and complete a half marathon before I turn 26.

To get back on the road for the first week, I’m just going to start. No follow any half marathon training plan at the moment, but just go out 4 times a week for 30 mins. Run / Jog and just get out there. Build it back into my routine. I’m loading up my phone with some great audio books and podcasts, so my audio company will be good, and looking forward to the fresh breeze, exploring the ‘new area’ and pavement pounding.

I’ve also joined the #jantastic campaign to keep my accountable and motivated.

Here to miles and more!
